Glen Burnie Senior Reviews

I have 2 children at GBH. Both have wonderful teachers who want to teach and help my children succeed. It is not perfect but believe me it could be much worse - I've seen it at other schools!

I attended GBHS, and it is a great school. All of my teachers want out of their way to help me in any way possible. Yes the kids may rome around the school, but what do you expect to happen with an open campus. I can gurantee you, if you put the kids from Sevrna Park or Broadneck High Schools into GBHS they would rome around to. The job of GBHS's staff is to teach the kids, not be the parnets.

I have one student that grduated from Gb with a 4.0 gpa, one that is in 10th grade on the honor society and very active in sports, and one that will be going Gb next year as a freshmen. I have found that most of the teachers at GB are great teachers. If I had concerns about my child I contacted them. Many students at GB are out of control and have very little guidance at all. The students lack respect of the teachers and the administrators. My children do just fine but I am very involved in all that they do. You can't lose grip on them. Even though they are older they are still children that need guidance. The staff can only do so much with all the children that attend the school. Some things must start at home.

I attended Glen Burnie High School (class of 05) after transferring from a private school overseas. I love being a Gopher, but the students run rampant (fences or no), the teachers don't care about truancy, the guidance counsellors are horribly underqualified (see my transcripts for proof), the books are outdated, graduating students are put through without proper grammar or organizational skills, etc. In summary, at Glen Burnie High School, the bare minimum is more than enough.

Witnessed stabbings, drugs, teacher/student fist fights, kids carrying guns in backpacks, everything you shouldn't see while your in school.

I volunteer at the school and I get to see first hand how things are really going in school. My son actually says he likes knowing that I'm there and that I'm helping with the school office. My son has been to a couple different schools and I for one will have to say that this school is by far the best one he's been to. Go Gophers!

I am really sorry to say this, but I am totally disgusted with GBHS. We have lived in GB for 7 years. My children attended GBH and had many friends over to the house from the school. I had to endure the horror stories from these kids daily. Teachers that just do NOT cae what the kids are doing while in their classes. The extreme bullying, which NOTHING is done about. Some of the kids have witnessed some drug activity at the lockers. I simply counted down the days till my kids were out of there. And the band program. They start those kids outside at the beginning of July all the way thru November. I am talking 100 degree days, rain or shine. I myself witnessed kids passing out from the heat. But they just kept on.This went on from 8am till dusk every day. UGH!

My child is a freshman at GB and I have found most of the staff to be very helpful. My calls and concerns have always been addressed in a timely manner. I believe a school is what you make of it. We must remember that any school that has a few thousand students is going to have problems. I'm happy as long as my child is safe and able to learn in their environment - which seems to be the case here at GB.

I like Glen Burnie and all don't get me wrong... But there is definitely not enough information that is reaching the students and in some classes the teachers just don't care... You can arrive late and do whatever they don't care they still get their salary... I like most of my teachers but some of my teachers aren't so great. I really do like this school even if it doesn't sound like it... I am a 16-yr old sophomore by the way...

Horrible unprofessional principal, who makes rash decisions and judgements with little or no information. No respect for foreign languages. Outdated textbooks. Lack of resources. Foreign language exchanges are more than discouraged. School newspaper articles about exchanges deliberately omit mention of the responsible teacher's / sole coordinator's name. One of the worst school environments. No sense of community. Classrooms without windows. Depressing atmosphere. Unsupportive. Couldn't wait until the end of the school year to quit. Curse the day I set foot on this campus!

Inside of the school is dull & dreary, it needs a face lift like north county had. I would want to committ suicide if i had to attend there. Staff can be a little more helpful and return calls quicker. All staff should attend a course on dealing with children from all walks of life so they can deal with them all on the levels and backgrounds that these children come from.

I am a former student who graduated in 2001. I attended since my freshman year. Although I do think the every school needs improvement, I can not think of anything too harsh to say about this one. I can only say that a dress code would benefit them greatly.

I think the school enviorment is wonderful, of course there are some bad kids at the school, but what school doesnt have their trouble makers. I think thats those few trouble makers give Glen Burnie a bad name when it is a perfectly fine school. My daughters have learned a great deal and i feel they are prepared for college and the real life. As for the administration, the are helpful about half the time. There are some outstanding teachers there that benifit the children so much. Berard, Willis, Thompson, Kelly, Engel, Bounelis, Keatts to name a few. I have three more daughter going into the school, and I feel that this school is just fine for their education.

After having two children attend this school, I have come to the conclusion that this has to be one of the worst high schools in Maryland. The teachers do not teach, The staff is not helpful in resolving student or parent problems, and the overall lack of respect one gets from this school is amazing. I am not sending my son there, and I also beleive that this school really doesn't care what the children or the parents want when it comes to educating the children. I know this seems harsh, but after years of trying to get through to this school about their policies and lack of caring, I do not have any nice things to say about Glen Burnie Senior High School.

Glen Burnie High is a wonderful school with many positives. Teachers are professional and keep students on their toes. I especially enjoy hearing positive conversation at the table about school. Love that I don't have to worry about her safty.

Great School, dedicated teachers, although new scheduling required by superintendent is not the best for the school, compared to others in the county, with a little more effort by the students, the school will make its way up the county's chart. Excellent principal.
