| Description: |
This is the 3rd of ten Louisiana paintings in a collection by myself called "The Historic New Orleans Collection"
In this painting I show a Louisiana Creole interior of the late 1830's. The architecture of the room is late Federal. The mantel is of the Early Louisiana Federal Creole raparound type. It has Doric plasters and Neoclassical lines. The French door has a Federal transom inspired by East Coast design. The plain plaster cornice molding is Federal in Style. The Louisiana Campeche or butaca chair is covered in leather. A Louisiana made Mahogany and cherry Louis XV paneled door armoire on cabriole legs. A French style chaise gondole by New Orleans French Quarter cabinetmaker Francois Seignouret circa 1830. The 4 drawer table Louisiana on delicate cabriole legs. On the mantel is a pair English Regency two light Argand lamps circa 1820 gilt brass and bronze with cut glass prisms on animal paw feet. The gilt wood New York Beehive mirror is Neoclassical in style circa 1825. The portrait above the mirror circa 1828. The porcelain on the mantel and stand is French Empire Old Paris porcelain. The Old Paris basket and five cups on the mantel in the French manner as was fashionable in early Louisiana interiors. The Banjo clock is From Massachusetts circa 1810-1820 with eglomise panels. Furniture and decorative arts from East Coast major city's like Boston, New York, Philadelphia, and Baltimore were common in early Louisiana interiors. The Ovel framed portrait engraving is French in a black lacquered and gilt frame. The wood cross has a New Orleans palm behind it. 14 x 18 unframed. |
